summer garden walks

Long summer days encourage us to explore our gardens in a bit more detail and a garden walk can be a great opportunity to appreciate the ever-changing palette of plants in the places we inhabit.

Flowers in summer go through rapid changes,  they grow very quickly, bursting with intensity of colours and textures.

Often when coming back to your garden after only a few days, you can clearly see pronounced changes that have occurred in your absence.

Jupiter Artland garden in summer

I have experienced this change recently when coming back to one of the public gardens I often visit. There I saw that the spikes of Veronicastrum virginicum were much bigger and more vivid in colour, when compared to when I visited, only a few days before. They were contrasting beautifully with Heleniums

As the sun rises earlier, we can also enjoy summer garden walks during the daybreak hours.

Plants in gardens in the early morning also look different, when compared to when they are viewed under the intensive afternoon light.

The atmosphere in a garden during an early morning walk is also different, we can notice the plants being more refreshed, more intense in colour, especially if it was raining during the night.

Summer garden walks can also be a great opportunity to watch and listen to the wildlife, especially in the morning.

There are a number of insects, birds and small mammals that inhabit our garden spaces and they are a real joy to observe as they come to life in the morning.

Most of the time the energy in gardens during summer months is very intense. They are full of life, colours, sounds and vibrancy, and summer garden walks can deliver quite stimulating experience for all of our senses.

Apart from delivering a stimulating visual experience, summer garden walks can be a great way to add to our health regime.

A brisk walk through a public garden or a park can bring numerous health benefits.

And after that brisk walk in a garden, hiding from the intensity of the afternoon sun in a cool shade of a tree, you can sit on a bench in a quiet spot and watch how right in front of you plants deliver an exciting kaleidoscope of colours.

The many attractions of summer garden walks, can be a good reminder that often there is no need to rush and travel far away to experience rest, relaxation and simple, mind boosting beauty.
